Amber Kell has made a career out of daydreaming. It has been a lifelong habit she practices diligently as shown by her complete lack of focus on anything not related to her fantasy world building.

When she told her husband what she wanted to do with her life he told her to go have fun.

During those seconds she isn't writing she remembers she has children who humor her with games of 'what if' and let her drag them to foreign lands to gather inspiration. Her youngest confided in her that he wants to write because he longs for a website and an author name—two things apparently necessary to be a proper writer.

Despite her husband's insistence she doesn't drink enough to be a true literary genius she continues to spin stories of people falling happily in love and staying that way.

She is thwarted during the day by a traffic jam of cats on the stairway and a puppy who insists on walks, but she bravely perseveres.

Best to read the Other Books First.

Dirk volunteers to take information to a different Ward. He has information that will help the resistance. He also wants to offer his own help. He meets Leon and finds himself attracted. Leon, though, has always been alone and afraid to trust, but his attraction cannot be denied. Then more trouble comes to call and they may not have any time to explore their attraction.
This one is that needs to be read in some order. It is short and I had a hard time getting into it. I would advise that you read the other books first.

Meh. Mediocre and overstated

I bought this book to prepare for a continued education class at UCSF where Dr. Nanda was the speaker.

Dr. Nanda is apparently a big name in orthodontics.

However, I felt that I wasted my time (closing my practice for the day) and $$$. His book (and lecture) cover the most basics of biomechanics and esthetics. In his lecture, he went over the same basic slides and several (mediocre) case presentations over, and over for 5 hours! For three more hours, he was trying to sell his newer book and name drop.

This is the same basic crap covered in the first week of Ortho block in dental school!

I would highly recommend avoiding this book. While there is some information of merit, the same thing is better covered in the Profitt book.

If you want a truly great book, this isn't it.

Get the Ikeda book if you want challenging information that will force you to grow. Get the Profitt book if you want a good basic reference.

As for Nanda, give me my wasted time and money back!

A "Must Have" Book on Relationships!!!

Lissa's book is IT! I never thought that when I got this book I would be so intrigued by the concept of Ayurveda and how accurate it is. Lissa does a great job at explaining how to relate with the different people in our life according to everyone's dosha.

Reading through this book, I felt like I was being introduces to the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda by an old time friend. Lissa's writes is warm way making this something that every one of us can relate to. This has helped me understand more of myself and those around me.

I highly recommend this book!!! I have given this as a present to several friends and they have all enjoyed it greatly :)

Great Introduction to Ayurveda!

I bought this book when I first learned the term 'Ayurveda'. I found it a very easy read and a good introduction to the subject. I've learned a lot since I first bought this book, but when I revisited it recently, I was pleased to find it still refreshing and accurate. I now know how impressive that it was to have been recommended by Dr. Vasant Lad!

If your are new to Ayurveda, this is a great beginning! And it may be all you ever really need to know.

Outdated

This is the first time I've actually taken the time to write out a review. I'm sure this book was awesome when it first came out, it is clear, concise and has a nice follow-along structure. However, it has become outdated and it is riddled with either old syntax and errors. I have gotten past most of that though. The worst part is probably that the files that are used in some of the examples are hosted on the authors blog and have been taken down. If he can't be bothered to continue hosting old files for people who may buy the book (or point us to somewhere to get them) we shouldn't be bothered to buy it.

Good - If you know what you're getting

Let me start with pointing out what this book does well:

- The book gives a good survey of common Machine Learning algorithms. It explains what kind of problems these algorithms are good for. That's perfect for someone who wants to get a quick overview and has no background in Machine Learning.
- The book is very easy to understand. The writing style is very casual. Even people without formal training in Computer Science should have no problem. The only thing that's required is basic programming knowledge, preferably in Python.
- Among all of the theoretical ML books out there it's refreshing to find a book that applies the algorithms to real-world problems.

Now the negative points. The following are not necessarily negatives for everyone, as it really depends on what you were looking for in this book. However, I was expecting a bit more, and was disappointed about the following:

- Half of the books is code. I just don't see the point in printing full listing of Python code. Why not give shorter pseudocode and make the Python code available on the website? The long code listings only obfuscate the ideas instead of demonstrating how to apply them. If you take away the code listings there are maybe 150 pages of "real" content left.
- The very casual and easy-to-understand style comes at a price. The book does not go into the mathematical details of any of the algorithms. I understand that this wasn't the books intention to begin with, but I would argue that some mathematical background is necessary in order to efficiently apply complex algorithms. If you want to apply the algorithms presented in the book to slightly different or more complex problems, or wish to understand the advantages/disadvantages of each of the algorithms you'll have to know the basic math behind them.
- The algorithms are very poorly implemented. Looking at some of the code makes me cringe. While the code in the book may work for "Building a search engine" for a few thousand pages, or optimizing problems with a handful of variables, it certainly won't work for more interesting problems that involve real-world data, which is orders of magnitude larger. And the real-world scale is where these algorithms actually become interesting. The code in this book will only work for small examples where efficiency play no role. I understand the author wanted to keep the code as simple as possible, but in my opinion a few notes about how algorithms can be made more efficient would have been necessary. I can see many people trying to apply these algorithms to their real-world data, and getting stuck because of the poor implementation.

Outdates, Code no longer works

I would not recommend anyone buying this book. The examples are outdated, based on sites that don't even exist anymore. The list of errata is huge (and doesn't even include all the errata I found).

Finally, the the author references old versions of python libraries that no longer 'work as advertised', or that have changed so radically that the example code will not even run - you'll be spending hours just figuring out how to update the code to be compatible with newer versions of the libraries referenced in the book. That in itself is a frustrating experience.

My advice is, get another book for Python or ML if that's what you're looking for and don't waste your time with this one.

I should have known better, but a book that has the seal of ...

Not the most reliable of Pastry cookbooks. The recipe for Macarons is a disaster. I have a recipe that is quite different from the one in this book which I have made for years quite successfully, but when I saw the one in THE FUNDAMENTAL TECHNIQUES OF CLASSIC PASTRY I decided to give it a try. I should have known better, but a book that has the seal of the French Culinary Institute, one would think, must have recipes that are absolutely trustworthy. Many other recipes are also disappointing. For a great book on baking, look elsewhere.

Great learning book

This is a great learning book ( Fundamental Tech. of Classic Pastry Arts by French Culinary Inst). It has ideas for the beginner and more advanced. It has alot of color pictures and recipes that actually work. I would reccommend this book. It came quickly and in great condition.

A Lot of Assumptions

I received this book and have tried two of the recipes. My experience has been similar to one of the reviews I read. There are typos. Typos that could easily lead one to do things wrong and therefore requires one to read the recipes several times and very carefully, knowing that all is not there that one needs for success.

I am not a professional, but I do have quite a bit of experience.

I tried the Frazier Victoria (FV). This recipe requires Creme Moussiline (CM) which is Creme Patissiere (CP) with butter incorporated after completing the CP. The recipe never specifically explains that a double batch of the CP recipe is needed to properly make the CP (and complete the two cakes the FV recipe makes). I figured this out while assembling the cakes and being able to complete only one cake (and later realizing I had made the CM with twice the butter!)! I went back and checked the yield required for the CM and then saw that the yield for the CP needed to be doubled to obtain the final yield of the CM. Pretty obscure way to do it, but maybe a pro would know this........although, the CM yield is shown in grams and pounds; the CP yield is shown in liters ~ thank you very much!

Although there are a lot of pictures, there are more recipes without than with. Some of those with, don't show the completed pastry (if unfamiliar with that particular one, how do you do it!?!). Also, written instructions do not always sync with the pictures shown.

My impression of the book is that the FCI chefs contributed recipes, but no one ever checked them for the "not" professional Pastry Chef and no one went through the book so they were presented in a consistent, step-by-step manner to increase one's success rate.

If there is a second printing, and I think there should be (and hope there will be), they should take the time to re-work the book and send everyone that bought the first printing new one, at no charge!!!
